What is ENGAGEMENT?

The Advertising Research Foundation defines ENGAGEMENT as “turning on a prospect to a brand idea enhanced by the surrounding context”.

While we simply define ENGAGEMENT as an interactive relationship between the brand and the audience that thrives in an environment of trust, credibility and transparency.

The Marshmallow Championship: A Visual Storytelling Workshop

When we visited Daulat Ram College (University of Delhi), our aim was involve the literature student into the process of visualization. To engage them into the journey of visual imagining. We presented them the MARSHMALLOW CHALLENGE.

The project was to create the highest stable structure using 20 spaghetti sticks, thread, tape and a single marshmallow. Within stipulated time, the teams under the flags of “3 Pipers“, “Analytics“, “Marshmallow Whatevers“, “Fantastic 4” and “SMS” built their own towers.

After Q&A related to the task, we ask them to write the story of their Marshmallow Challenge. Translation is the act of generating meaning. It is a process of transmutation. We ask them then to depict their story into a string of images. We encourage them to draw their narrative into a storyboard.

We selected the best story and storyboard, we reworked it and created a whiteboard animation to showcase their visual understanding.

A story called “Jo Jeeta wohi sikandar” by Fantastic 4.

The New Baba Toon Sketches

The Adventures of BABA TOON continues. The following sketches are from the upcoming whiteboard animation.

Vardhan is fascinated with a new idea. He believes that it may change the course of his company. He works hard all week. Yet when he presents his idea to his colleagues, the reception is less than inviting. The lack of enthusiasm demotivates him.

It is time for Baba Toon to enter the picture. Stay tuned for the new developments in the story.

Step Three: Storyboard

THE PROCESS OF CREATION: Idea> Concept & Character Design> Storyboard> Script & Voice Over> Animation

A STORYBOARD is a consolidation of the various aspects of the concept. It is the fable depicted in frames. The concept that was revolving in imaginary worlds is now given a lineal story line to inhabit. The characters that were created with  inherent movement is now given a path to express.

A storyboard is a sequence of illustrations with intended dialogues and direction. A storyboard is the master plan. It is the blueprint. It is the stage where each feather of the wing is put into its place.

At Brainpan Studio, our visual artist builds the grid, elaborating the concept into a fascinating tale. At this stage, the characters mingle with the concept. The blood in infused and a brave new world comes into light.

Step Two: Concept + Character Design

THE PROCESS OF CREATION: Idea> Concept & Character Design> Storyboard> Script & Voice Over> Animation

A CONCEPT is the realisation of the idea. It is the skin and bones of the initial spark. It is the elaborate costume that the idea adorns to convey its distinct meaning. A concept is the fulfillment of the vision that the idea professed.

A concept is not a wild goose chase. It is distinct. It is eloquent. It is significant. And it is relevant. A concept is an proverbial ark that rides the wave and saves the day.

A CHARACTER DESIGN narrates fascinating tales. It depicts attitude, poses, body language and emotions. It relays its existence. A good character has a past, a present and a future. Its existence is encoded in its design. A character design builds an environment.

A character design creates a language. It builds the DNA. It breeds movement.

At Brainpan Studio, we clothe the idea into concept. The characters are designed to breed in this ideal world. The concept through these characters build an universe for the audience to interact. These are the building blocks to the universe that has just burst into existence.
