Get Your Anatomy Right

Get your basics correct, says Moon Arun. Before you write the epic novel, learn the alphabets right. Before you deal with complex compounds, keep the periodic table in sight. Your magnum opus will only be a reflection of your childhood crawl. No body can hold upright without the structure to hold it tight. No structure is valid without the basic skeleton. Before you draw on the flesh, learn to balance the bones.

To be a good artist, get your anatomy right.

Learn from the master. We highly recommend the book “Anatomy and Drawing” by Victor Perard.

The Study of Anatomy

“There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.” -Pablo Picasso

Imagine learning mathematics without learning the multiplication tables. Imagine learning chemistry without the periodic tables. The same goes for learning drawing. The figures that your sketch are based on an internal coherence. The external progression is an extension of the internal structure. An architect can not build a monument without an inherent structure. A novelist can not create worlds without grammar. Such is the importance of the study of anatomy to an artist of the living forms and even non-living forms.

Anatomy is an universal language. It is the base and the logic to the external celebration. It is the meaning to the movement and the expression. It is the energy in the figure.
